Dear Jostens Class-Ring Salesman,
I am 25 and currently involved in a long-distance relationship with a sweet man I met last summer. Although I care about him deeply, he has become quite overbearing. He sends me roses almost every week and calls me at work just to tell me how much he loves me. I think he worries that I might be dating other guys since we're so far apart. I'm not, but to be honest, his neediness is becoming a huge turn-off. How can I tell him to tone it down?
—Smothered In Seneca
Dear Smothered,
Any football players out there? How'd we do this season? Pretty impressive, guys. How about band? Anyone play the trombone? Well, then, I'd like you to take a look at this ring. Pass that back to that gentleman with the glasses. See, Jostens has many styles and colors to choose from, so that your class ring will reflect your unique personality. Create a one-of-a-kind ring that shows off your special qualities. Jostens has engravings for every activity, from athletics to newspaper to 4H. And just look at all the stone options. Nice, huh? Go ahead, try it on. Every color of the rainbow. You can get your birthstone, your favorite gem, or go with your favorite color. See this writing on the side here? You can express yourself further with one of the multiple bezel options. With so many choices, it would be impossible to make a ring that isn't right for you. This one says, ah, "Deus Veritas Familia," and that means—hold on a sec. Okay, that means "God, Truth, and Family." Then we got "Veritas Familia Sapientia" which means, let's see here, "Truth, Family, and Wisdom." We even have a home-schooled option, so if any of you have home-schooled friends, let them know they don't have to be left out. Okay then, let's start passing those rings forward. Here's an order form for each one of you. No, don't worry if you're not sure. Take a form, just in case. Might as well. Here's one for you. Take the brochure home and talk about it with Mom and Pop. I'll be back on Thursday. I can't wait to see what you all pick out. |

hey so i was sitting here and thinking i'm kinda bored with studying and looking at the Internet so i should go to bed. but then i thought i'm not really that tired. then, for some reason that is unknown to my head i remembered that i have this blog sometimes and i figured why not update that thing.
news:
~school sucks. this semester is crazy busy studying and working. finals are coming and i have all five tests/final exams to take in 3 consecutive days.
~school sucks. i find out that in the middle of my senior year, i'm still not going to be able to transfer to the major i want. i will be able to apply to transfer in. i won't be in until everybody i've ever known in life has moved on and left me naked and dying on the side of the road. and i know thats a bit dramatic but hey, its my blog, back off. so while i thought i would probably graduate in may of 07, it looks like its going to be at least another semester. good news is that although i most certainly will be kicked out of forestry after only one semester for not taking their classes, i will have another major to go to. that is one thing i wasn't looking forward to working on again. i spent countless hours working on that last summer. but much thanks to my good friend dr. tim scott, associate dean of student affairs in the college of science for helping me out and making some fone calls, my way is mostly paved to find a place for me either in eng. tech or in a 'holding pattern' in the college of ag and life sciences. whew, but woah still. whatever. oh yea, this is the first semester in the history of my being here (other than my very first) that i've actually gotten all the classes i meant to have at the beginning of the next semester, during our preregistration. thats something like 6 semesters of me being really really really pissed off. and don't get me wrong, i had my fair share of being pissed off this time too, i just got what i needed after a fashion. with the exception of tech writing which i plan on taking via distance learning from tech i think. and all that thanks goes to my good friend and gf loulou for pretty much just doing everything for me. literally everything. i initially registered myself, but she changed them and planned them and everything. i owe her a lot. ~works cool. i like waiting tables at madden's, a casual gourmet restaurant in old downtown bryan. i like the ppl i work with. but i have to take this stupid dinner/wine test to wait tables at dinner where the good money is, and the wine list is friggin hard. but i'm gonna take it this weekend and work dinners over the break. oh yea, suxors. i have to work a crapload over the break. i work from now until dec. 23 and then i start again jan 6 and dont stop until school starts again. i planned it myself where i had a big break, but thats bc my bro's gonna be in the country and i wanna spend as much time as possible w/ him. ~jack. he's in russia. he really is having a good time and having some crazy-awesome experiences. i've talked to him a couple times on the phone and emailed him a couple times. i think there's a lot he really misses about being closer to home and stuff...like just being out of communication. at the air force academy he was still gone a bunch, but we talked more often (a lot less time difference) and saw him a little bit more. but hes doing awesome. fluent in russian. drinking more like a russian than at least i am (well, a helluva lot more like a russian than i am, at least). but hes taking care of himself. i really want to go visit him there. it would just be amazing to see more of life outside the US. furthest i've been is belize. i really loved it, and i really long to experience more of the world. i hope to get a chance to do this someday. ~sister. shes a freshman at uta and gonna transfer to ut austin next year. i hope she gets to do that. if she gets to do film like she wants, it would be totally cool. she's really amazingly creative. she makes music (tight beats), edits music videos and all kinds of stuff, and takes great pictures and edits those....she's just stinking creative. who knew? ~parents. dad opened his own firm in september after 10 yrs of being an associate at another firm. things are going really well for him. mom quit the receptionist bit at a salon and is secretary. its cute. his office is really cool and swank. makes me want to be a lawyer so i can have a nice office. but business has been going for him at least. they've been able to stay in the black on overhead and w/ the home bills for the first 3 months. just give him time. my dad's awesome he's gonna be great. it would be so cool if it turned into a huge firm or something. but i dont know what his plans are concerning that. he just wanted to be able to make his own decisions and stuff i think, and finally decided this was the best time to do it. i'm glad, my sister just left, and its giving them both something new to concentrate on rather than the empty nest stuff. ~big sis and gracie. aww...gracie's so cute. shes a year old now. i wish i got to see them both more. i hear things are going okay for them, other than being sick lately. ~being sick. i'm still coughing. i've had a touch of a cold lately, or as matt wiseman put it, a bitch slap. i've gotten over most of it except for this dadgum cough. its really annoying. and loulou is still coughing and she was sick like 3 weeks before me. i think i'm gonna try to get us both up to beutel and see whats up. she took antibiotics and they helped, but shes still coughing like me. ~and loulou. she's my girl. we've been dating 10 1/2 months now and we're pretty serious. i like her a lot. i even love her a little. jkjk a lot. we spend a lot of time together. she helps me study and motivates me. i won't gush on here much more. i just didn't want to leave her out.
well theres my update. tell me you're happy you finally got one or i'll never write anything on here again. theres gotta be better ways of figuring out whats going on in my life. have a nice life.

ok, so i just got finished with a stinkin full day with the 'rents. the coolest part of the day would have to be shaking George H. W. Bush's
hand and taking a picture of him. but i'll get to that
later. first, i'll recount the day's happenings. i guess
technically my day started at midnight last night where you would
finding me cleaning a very dirty apartment. i cleared stuff off
my desk and got it where everything would lay down flat; then i put up
a crapload of laundry, and put other crap away that sits next to my
computer desk. then i put up clean dishes and filled the
dishwasher and washed them and then emptied it and put a few more
things in there, then i cleaned the sink and counter hardcore.
then i took out some of the trash. then i probably cleaned the
shower floor. it was pretty dirty... you see, the enamel of the
tub has worn away, and so it doesn't really protect it from all the
dirt being pretty much walked into it. it's not really
unsanitary, it just looks pretty dirty. i had to alternatively
bleach it and scrub it really hard before most all of it came
off. i did the same thing with the sink, which apparently has the
same problem. then i probably slept for a few hours then woke up
and showered and did took out more of the trash. i called the
parents and told jarrod that they would be here in 30 min or so, so he
got in the shower. while he was naked, mom called back and said
she really had to pee so nobody better be naked or showering or
anything when she got there. i told her jarrod was in and would
be out soon and nobody else was here. then i hung up on her and
callum walked in from working out all sweaty and nasty. jarrod
got out and i told him to hurry like it was cold water or mom would be
'pissed' haha, a pun. he was still in there when the parents
showed up earlier than i expected them to. so they left to find a
bathroom and as soon as they left callum got out. which was good
bc i hadn't cleaned the toilet like i planned this morning bc i knew
mom would pee and it was dirty, but ppl were in the showers the whole
time. so i cleaned it, it was really pretty gross. except
the parts that you touch like the seat and handle. for some
reason, those parts were clean (or clean looking) well now the whole
thing is cleaned and mom was happy later when she peed again. so
then the fam, oh yea my sister was here too, we all went to wesley and
said hi to some people and ate some okay food. the beef was
pretty good, but the chicken was dry and i'm sure they overpaid for dry
chicken. oh well. then the parents went with jarrods parent to
the aggie moms boutique craft show thingy while mary followed me around
like a lost puppy. haha, that makes her a bitch. so i did a
soundcheck thingy and kinda warmed up w/ choir whom i haven't practiced
with in about 2months. we sang a song i hadn't sung for two
years....exciting. worship was cool, and the slideshow was a
slideshow. then i drove the fam to my house that we got for next
year and they thought it was alright and they kept telling me all the
worst stuff that could happen and didn't say much about what a good
thing it was for us to finally have more space where we won't fart on
each other in our sleep anymore. i don't care, i'm excited.
i don't care if the neighbors are alcoholics. mom didn't believe
me that alcoholics typically don't break into cars while they are
inebriated. dangerous minorities do. blah blah blah. then
we went to a produce market that was cool and all marketish and not
like a supermarket or any crap like that. we got a bunch of food
to supplement the leftover meat from lunch mom bought for dinner like
apples and nuts and chips and some other stuff. then we went to
the 'plant sale' that wasn't there in the horticulture gardens.
but we drove around and looked at plants and stuff. then we packed the
food into ice chests for dinner then went to welsye and got ice and
then went to the softball game where good ole herbert walker showed up
and got a standing ovation for existing and i was the first person to
approach him and annoy him while he tried to watch a softball game and
take his picture which you may or may not see in the future at this
address i'm a badass bc i shook his hand layoff me, i'm still
cool. aggies beat the other people 3-0 they really sucked bad
bad. it was an alright game. mary asked out the secret
service officer. he said he'd call. but then we left and
mary realized she didn't get his number. i told her its okay,
we'll find him again, we know what he looks like. he dresses in a
black suit w/ black sunglasses and a little earpiece. i'll just
google the description and we'll get 'im. then we went to the
'asleep at the wheel' concert which was really really cool. i
always say that i don't like country but i do, i like old
country. it's the pop-country that i pretty much can't
stand. they are really good all by themselves, they won somthing
like 8 grammy's or were nominated for that many or something.
they also played a lot of covers of lyle lovett and other old country
artists but mostly bob wills which is really cool. bob wills and
the texas playboys started in the '30s and played until the '50s i
think. they just played a whole bunch of old really famous
songs. one of hte coolest things was that every stinkin member of
that band was just an amazing musician. ray (the guy) was really
good at the guitar and had some stinkin fast fingers. the
fiddler/mandolin player was great and had a great voice too, and the
piano player and steel guitar player and bass guitar player were really
good, especially the pianist, he was great. and the drummer was
alright i guess, i didn't pay much attn to him though. ray has
this crazy awesome deep voice that sounds really good, and he's really
good about putting energy and changing his songs where he sings high
and low and makes it interesting. then i came back and looked at
cool sis' cool senior pics and watched the end of bruce almighty and
said goodbye to the fam and sat for a while then typed this. next
i'm gonna go get lit and not sleep and go to church while i'm coming
down. i'm that cool.

quick update of the super-cool music weekend:
wed: ~saw wish found nation at the groove -- i'd never heard of them, but i saw them advertised as a 9-piece funk/reggae/ska improv group on a chalkboard in my manufacturing processes class so i went to check them out. they turned out to be really fun. they were really into it and i liked the music. horns, guitars, percussive instruments all sounded cool together.
thur: ~marc played at Time Square -- sweet show, it was all marc ~had to work (boo) when i didn't think i had to, but still managed to catch the very end of ethan durelle -- i only got to see the end of his encore, but it was still sweet. i wish i could have seen the whole thing. it rocked ~ryan ng told me (incorrectly) that the burden bros. show was actually that night. but upon investigating, apparently 12:15am friday means friday night. ~saw flickerstick instead -- i don't really listen to them. their concert was alright, but i was tired so i went home and to sleep.
fri: ~i thought i would catch skylar blue before burden brothers, but there was a line since shadow canyon was at capacity when i got there so i waited 45 min while it was 1 out - 1 in ~finally got in to see burden bros. -- those guys really rock live. every one of their shows is better than the last. i've now seen them 4 times (almost a 5th last feb, but it the club was already full in san marcos so i totaled my car instead). towards the end i went to the front in the 'mosh' and by the end my entire shirt was several shades darker from mostly other ppl's sweat -- eww. but KA nonetheless.
sat: ~after accidentally sleeping for 12 hrs, i (well, not immediately after) went to see marc play once more at Time Square. he lengthened his set by 50% more (2 songs). there were more people there than just 5 of us this time. it was cool. ~then i went to see better than ezra -- i didn't think it would be as crowded, but it was more crowded than fri night. mayhap bc it was a sat. i waited 1.5 hrs and made friends w/ the ppl around me. ~when i finally got in, better than ezra played 2 songs then an encore -- the second song i saw, they asked for someone from the audience to come up and play guitar on the next song (they had to know it). when he finally picked someone, the guy who got up was Wes, josh mauldin's roommate from my freshman (his soph) year. he played drums at wesley again a few weeks ago... actually, he is the reason i went to the show. he crazy about them and he's told me how awesome their shows are, so that's why i decided to check them out. well, he played the lead singer's guitar and actually sang some of the backup vocals too. it was really awesome. the whole crowd loved it - they were going crazy for him. i was telling everybody around me that i know that guy, it was hilarious. then, in the encore, he pulled wes back onstage and gave him a cowbell and told him to start playing with the drummer. then he started the blue oyster cult song 'don't fear the reaper' on guitar. it was like the skit from SNL w/ christopher walken (we need more cowbell). the crowd went even crazier for him. he stood up on the speakers (about 7 ft tall) and was dancing around while everyone was yelling for him. it was so cool. wes is so spazmodic -- it was great. that show was probably the best of the whole weekend (maybe bc of that). the lead singer was so cool - he interacted the entire time with the crowd (talking a lot) and you could tell they were just having a good time playing. actually, he even said that they have a good time when the crowd does. i don't even know their music (i've got some by now) and i loved it. it was well worth the wait to say the least.
that's it for my music weekend. most of it was through the northgate music festival. although $40 is a lot to spend for one weekend of music, it was well worth it. i hope you enjoyed the actual update. maybe some of my pics of marc from my phone will finally get emailed here... who knows. |

I saw this thur night. This is probably illegal.
It was an alright movie I wasn't amazed by it or anything. But I also didn't feel well either, so that may have had something to do with it. Jarrod really liked it, so, good for him. |
